As The Trucking Industry Is Impacted by Hurricane Harvey, It Will Continue to Help in The Relief8/29/2017 The arrival of Hurricane Harvey to the Texas coastline caused enormous damage to the state and in addition will affect the trucking industry. It is expected that in the first week nearly 10% of all U.S. trucking will be impacted. The areas directly affected by the hurricane, being the Gulf Coast, will be affected nearly 100%. The main cause of this is that trucks remain idle as they await the water to recede from loading docks and highways. The arrival of relief supplies, and extra shipments will also add on to the demand. While an increase in congestion due to docks being backed up will affect the industry as well. With these changes it expected that prices in these regions will also be increasing. Fuel prices are expected to also rise, with Exxon Mobil and Phillips 66 closing their refineries after the hurricane. Alas when a disaster hits in the U.S., the trucking industry is one of the first to respond. Beginning with the transportation of relief supplies or any other support that might be needed. Thousands of trucks are already working hard in transporting relief supplies to the areas affected. To read the full article from FreightWaves click here.
