The ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles are reacting to the trucking community about repurposing additional properties to enhance productivity. Empty properties that were previously coal terminals would be repurposed to use for near-dock yards for dray offs and to store chassis. The port is currently seeking approval from the harbor commission for a trial period in which it would house inbound container dray-offs. To begin, there would be 450 slots available however if it results successful, the port would have 3,500 spots available. The goal of this movement is to ensure availability for all truckers. If all 3,500 spots become available, it would accelerate the speed of handling by 10% of the total 35,000 gate moves per day. If the slots have a turnover rate of twice per day, then the congestion at gates would be enhanced by 20%. To find the full information on this and read Joc’s article click here.
