Senators are quickly finding solutions on how to fight human trafficking. The latest idea comes from a bill that has been approved by the senate with no oppositions from both political parties. This demonstrates how human trafficking is being recognized as a national problem. The new bill would involve truck drivers and commercial vehicle drivers by providing training for them to recognize and report any activity. One of the reasons given for truck drivers involvement is that they are the eyes and ears on the road and are considered to be on the first line of defense. A part of the measure would include that if an individual has ever been involved in human trafficking felony they would not be permitted to operate a commercial motor vehicle. The other measure includes the creation of an advisory committee on the issue. This would form a ‘human trafficking prevention coordinator’ within the department of transportation. The purpose of this member is so that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration would increase outreach, education and reporting efforts. The transportation industry is receiving a lot of involvement in this problem because lawmakers determined that the industry is well-positioned to help distinguish and stop the problem. Specifically, because human traffickers use the nation’s transportation systems to move their victims around.
