Solar Energy Is Looking to Disrupt the Dependency of Fossil Fuels in The Trucking Industry8/22/2017 The use of solar energy is growing in popularity within the trucking industry. This is primarily because of the diverse power capabilities that solar energy can provide within trucks. Currently solar power can be seen used for lighting, computers, lift gates and more. Other companies use the solar power for refrigeration units in order to assist in the temperature cooling of cargos. In addition, Tesla is stepping up by partnering with Panasonic to equip its vehicles with a solar to reduce the cost of electricity running the vehicle. Technology like this would allow to reduce the cost of an idling engine. For example, when the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency studied the cost of engine idling, it resulted that a truck can cost the company $1,650 per year. Unfortunately, a truck needs to keep its engine running in order to keep heating, ventilation and air conditioning running. With the advancing technology of solar power companies are hoping to reduce the idling costs of engines and in the long run create a truck that depends solely on solar power.
