Many states are altering their freight transportation schedules in order to avoid the rise of traffic surrounding the highways as people head towards the best viewing locations of the upcoming solar eclipse. State department officials are even requesting that trucking companies limit the amount of deliveries in the near days. For example, Oregon’s restrictions include the prohibition of extra-wide loads during the surrounding days. Various other states are also restricting over weight and over size loads. The reasoning behind these regulations is because of the high expected volume of traffic of people driving towards the locations. The eclipse will occur on August 21st and it is the first time in North America that there is a coast- to-coast total solar eclipse since 1918. The Federal Highway Administration has created safety tips on their webpage for driving on the road. The same goes for the states of Nebraska, South Carolina and Kentucky who have not released any fleet limitations but distributed safety awareness material.
