Soon trucks will have the technology of phones in which their software updates will be done wirelessly. Truck manufacturers are competing to create software update technology that will automatically install the latest system without the assistance of a mechanic. What this means for the trucking industry is that companies and drivers can save plenty of money. This would also avoid trucks the drive to the dealers, and simply update the truck in a parking lot. One of the downsides of the growth of technology is the vulnerability it creates towards security breaches. The fear that vehicles would be capable of being taken over terrorists is one that an assistant US attorney general stated. However, Over The Air (OTA) technology is being constructed so that it can be highly secured. Vehicle dealers are also greatly pushing against this idea because it would result in loss of profit from performing recall repairs. However overall it is estimated that by 2023 the automotive industry can save an estimated $40 billion.  To learn more about the Over the Air Software update technology read Trucks.com article.
